About Us ...
Both sharing a love for horses and the outdoors we are very fortunate to take our passion and turn it into our profession. Both of us grew up on the back of a horse, pony, mule, donkey, or whatever else we could strap a saddle on. From the beginning we both grew up knowing our profession would, without a doubt, include horses. Both of us spent several years traveling all over the country working for several different horse trainers learning many different riding styles, until finally our paths led us together and HM Performance Horses was born. HM Performance Horses is located in the breath taking foothills of the Carolina mountains on Heath's family farm. Nestled into a quaint holler at the base of the mountain sits 85 acres of rolling grass pasture with miles of mountainside trails in any direction we wish to go. We have a small private facility that includes a 13 stall barn, indoor and outdoor riding pens, paddocks, a hot walker, wash stall, heated office, and miles of trails. Heath's passion in the horse business is starting young, well bred colts and giving them the solid fundamentals to go on to be a top notch reining horse. He just recently returned from Oklahoma where he rode and schooled under Brian Bell (World Champion Reining Horse Trainer) and attended the national reining horse futurity. When Heath is not sitting on a horse he can usually be found underneath of one. He is an accomplished farrier that not only shoes his own horses, but has several customers throughout the county as well. Heather admits she rides a wide variety of horses and many different disciplines for her profession, but her real hobby is running barrels at the rodeos. She travels to many different rodeos and barrel horse shows where she can always be found with her faithful mount "Rascal". Rascal is Heather's greatest accomplishment in the horse business. He came to her as an unruly 3yr old bronc out of Clovis, New Mexico, but there was something about him that attracted Heather. That was 6 years ago and since then Heather has made a finished barrel horse out of him. She has competed at numerous rodeos up and down the east coast and placed at many invitation only events.
With help of friends, family, and great customers HM Performance Horses was born and continues to grow. We love to meet new friends in the business and expand our nationwide network so please contact us or plan a visit. We look forward to meeting you. Hope to see you soon!

John Wayne about old time cowboys--
They were simple, direct men.
They believed in things like liberty and minding their own business.
When the first cowboys were herding longhorns up the Chisholm Trail from Texas to Kansas they were a pretty tough lot, but they had to be. It was a rough era in our history. There was no room for nuance or no time for luxury.
Out of the lives of these cowboys have come all sorts of stories and legends, Some true and some fiction. But the most authentic and dependable evidence of what the cowboys really were has come from the artists who pictured them in their true environment, risking their lives in stampedes, freezing or sweating, under the stars, by lonely campfires, rowdying in saloons, fighting, branding and whooping it up around the chuck wagon.

Don't name a pig you plan to eat. Country fences need to be horse high, pig tight, and bull strong. Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, but how well you bounce. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plough around the stump. A bumble bee is faster than a John Deere tractor. Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled. Meanness don't happen overnight. Forgive your enemies. It messes with their heads. Don't sell your mule to buy a plough. Don't corner something meaner than you. It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge. You can't unsay a cruel thing. Every path has some puddles. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The best sermons are lived, not preached. Most of the stuff people worry about never happens. Don't squat with your spurs on. Don't judge people by their relatives. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time. Don't interfere with something that ain't botherin' you none. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. It's better to be a has-been than a never-was. The easiest way to eat crow is while it's still warm. The colder it gets, the harder it is to swaller. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'. If it don't seem like it's worth the effort, it probably ain't. It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep. Sometimes you get and sometimes you get got. The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you shave his face in the mirror every morning. If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around. Don't worry about bitin' off more'n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think. Only cows know why they stampede. Always drink upstream from the herd. If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there with ya. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in. You can't tell how good a man or a watermelon is 'till they get thumped. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
